Reiki Treatment

What to expect during a Reiki Therapy Session.

You will be greeted on arrival, in a quiet, professional and comfortable environment. There will be a massage table present with pillow, drinking water, tissues and gentle background music. The practitioner will talk through the session with you and explain the process of Reiki/healing.

You will be asked to complete a “client information form” detailing any current medical treatments you are receiving. This information is purely confidential and it is for the practitioners use, so we know how to treat you /and what the purpose for the session is.

There are seven chakra points through the body, these will be explained and you will be asked if there is also any area where hand placement would be considered in a vulnerable or personal area.  Everyone feels different about their body and it’s important that we ask, so you feel comfortable.

Unlike traditional massage, the patient is always fully clothed.  You will only be required to remove your shoes.  However bulky jackets and blazers should be removed, glasses, empty pockets, loosen tight belts, switch off mobile, arms/legs unfolded.

You will be asked to lay flat on the table.  The session will be 1 hour inclusive.
25 mins each side – face up / and face down, with 5-10 mins for finishing. We will focus on your seven major chakra points at this time.

Hands are generally placed on the body, with the exception of the following areas – for which hands are placed above the body: Third eye, Eyes, Breast are on woman, reproductive areas. You can mention other areas which you may feel vulnerable on the client information form.

During the session many feel so relaxed that they fall asleep.   This is fine and quite normal.
You will be prompted when to turn over.  On completion – you will be given time to awaken and
become present. This can take some people 5-10 minutes.  You will be given a glass of water to drink / OR a cup of tea, and a biscuit. This is important, to ensure that you awaken fully from the healing.

The practitioner will then talk about the session for a couple of minutes.  You will be asked to give feedback.  Mention any tingling, pulsations heat/cold, sleep, visuals, colours, memories or emotions that you felt during the session.  This will assist for your next follow-up.

Reiki After-care Process

What to do after a healing?
Please drink plenty of water for the next couple of days, to flush out toxins that your body will release as a result of the session.  Water in-take should be increased to the standard 6-8 glasses per day.  (With the exception of those whom have kidney disorders).

Continue to take all prescribed medication(s) from your doctor.

If you have diabetes something should be eaten immediately following the healing - a sweet or biscuit, to combat any change in sugar levels from the healing.  Diabetes patients will be susceptible to this.

Most people find that they sleep solidly that night – as much as 8-12 hours after a Reiki session.  Make sure you have an early night, and continue to drink lots of water.  If possible, please avoid caffeine and alcohol for the next 2 days.

Following the Reiki session the body will enter into a cleansing response, flushing waste products from the tissues.  During this time you may experience thirst, mild discomfort, headaches or tiredness.   Alternatively you may well feel energized and “on top of the world”.

Please contact us if you have any severe/ ongoing effects after your session / or contact your health practitioner if you have symptoms that persist.

The Healing Process
While substances are ejected out of the tissues, they are dumped into the system making the body “temporarily” more toxic until they can be excreted.  This is the body’s normal healing process.

This process is partly what produces the symptoms of a healing reaction.  This effect is accentuated by the body’s process of tearing apart defective tissue, repairing damaged cells, destroying parasites or ineffective agents and otherwise producing debris from the reconstruction.  Generally the more toxic his or her body is the stronger will be the healing reaction.

Healing Reactions
If you have never experienced a Reiki Healing session before, it is most likely that you will have mild healing reaction such as a thirst, tiredness after the treatment – sleeping 8-10 hours, or alternatively feeling on top of the world.

Here is a list of common healing reactions which can occur during / and after the session, and normally last for 24 hours:

  • urge for water, dry throat, need to swallow or cough
  • flatulence, rumbling tummy
  • heat rash from where hands have been placed on the body
  • mild discomfort, headache
  • wave of tears, release of emotions
  • old memories
  • feeling on top of the world - buzzing with energy
  • sleep 8-10 hours that night
  • feeling cold
  • little shaking of the hands if low blood pressure (this is why it is important to have a biscuit and cup of tea following the treatment if you have this)
  • sweating, diarrhea, old symptons as the body releases toxins
  • motion sickness, little nausea
